Downsizing after kids moved out, need honest advice
Since January I've been shortlisting compact 2BHK flats after the kids moved out. We honestly don't need such a big place anymore, so resale of our existing property is underway. I'm looking near Bommasandra and along the Purple Line in Whitefield. Want something manageable with a reliable elevator and quick hospital access. Are these metro corridors actually convenient for senior living, or is the road traffic still awful? Has anyone made a similar move?
Comments
Both locations have major trade-offs, Whitefield has solid healthcare but terrible dust and jams, while Bommasandra offers super-specialty hospitals right at the door but lacks vibrant social life. Resale deals take months to close too, so do not rush into token payment without cross-verifying clear title deeds. What is your final shortlisted budget and floor preference now?
If quiet living is your main priority, why not look slightly towards East beyond Whitefield like Aavalahalli? Prices are comparatively reasonable there and green cover is much better than crowded metro hubs.
Aavalahalli is too far disconnected for senior citizens if neither of them wants to drive daily. Metro is nowhere close, and trusting Ola or Uber for emergency hospital visits at night from that side will give non-stop anxiety. I would stick closer to established hubs any day even if the apartment carpet area is smaller.
Have you considered Akshayanagar instead? It is much closer to Bannerghatta hospitals like Apollo and Fortis, and feels far less chaotic than Whitefield. Even our broker suggested looking around Akshayanagar for quiet 2BHK options within budget.
Akshayanagar road widening has been pending forever yaar! I went there to check a 2BHK last Saturday, took me 45 minutes just to cross the main junction. If you need urgent hospital runs, that single bottle-neck will make your heart skip a beat.
Between Bommasandra and Whitefield, Bommasandra feels slightly calmer for elderly living, especially with Narayana Hrudayalaya right on the highway. But please check the borewell water scene there, tanker dependence is terrible.
Yes, water TDS level is a huge problem near Jigani and Bommasandra industrial belt! My cousin checked a resale unit there, and the maintenance bill alone had 4000 rupees just for private water tankers every month. If your parents have joint issues, climbing stairs during power backup failure is another nightmare to double-check. Did you verify if the society has a proper dual DG setup?
Whitefield Purple line stretch sounds good on paper, but have you seen the auto surge near the stations? I am also hunting for my first flat on a tight 65L budget, and honestly even basic societies there are quoting insane maintenance charges. Is hospital access really smooth near Kadugodi side?
Bhai, hospital reach around Kadugodi is decent because Manipal and Vydehi are right there, but peak hour road traffic will give you BP. My parents visited a project near Hope Farm last week, and getting an ambulance or cab inside those crowded inner lanes looks terrifying. Even I got scared looking at the narrow approach roads.
