Okay I'll be honest — I completely underestimated how confusing this process is. We're considering a 3BHK in Sector 18D, Chandigarh. My wife's priority is safety for the kids, especially evenings. Also, how are the schools around there? Is it a good family neighborhood day-to-day? What's the real resident life like?

Don't be swayed by just the negative points, bhai! Every new sector has its initial challenges. I have friends living in 18D, and they absolutely love the peace and quiet. For families, that's a huge plus. The community is slowly building up, and you'll find more amenities coming up. Plus, the air quality is much better than central Chandigarh. It's a long-term investment, not just for today. What's your budget, by the way?
I'm with U3 on the long-term potential. But for immediate family needs, it can be tough. We ended up buying in Mullanpur Garibdass instead, even though it was slightly pricier. The development there felt a bit more structured, and amenities were coming up faster.
U3, budget is key here. For a 3BHK, 18D prices are definitely lower than established sectors. You can get a decent 3BHK for around 60-80 lakhs depending on the builder and amenities. If you compare it to a similar sized flat in say, Mohali, it's a steal. But current market conditions with rising interest rates make everyone nervous about big investments.
U3, you're right about the peace. But safety is non-negotiable for me. Jaise aapne bataya, community build ho rahi hai, but till then, is it safe enough for kids to play outside in the evenings? Are there dedicated play areas or just open plots? And for daily groceries, is there a proper market nearby or do we have to drive far?
Yaar, I totally get what you're saying. We also looked at Sector 18D for a 3BHK a few months ago. Honestly, the prices were tempting, but my biggest concern was exactly what you mentioned – safety, especially for kids after dark. It felt a bit isolated in some pockets, and the main roads weren't always well-lit. Schools ki connectivity bhi itni smooth nahi lagi. Have you checked out the actual ground reality or just brochures?
Totally agree with U2. My cousin booked a flat there two years back, and possession is still pending. Every time they ask, they get a new date. Plus, the nearest good schools are either in New Chandigarh or back towards Manimajra, which means daily commute for kids. That's a huge headache, especially in the morning rush.
Hold on, I think it depends on which specific project you're looking at in 18D. We moved into 'Green Meadows' last year, and it's been a pleasant surprise. Our society has 24/7 security with proper gated access, and the internal roads are well-lit. My kids go to a school in New Chandigarh, and the bus service is very reliable. Day-to-day life is peaceful, no traffic jams like in main Chandigarh. For the price, you get a much bigger space.
Exactly! U1, you hit the nail on the head. We went for a site visit last month, and while the apartments themselves looked decent, the surrounding infrastructure is still very much under development. Raat ko toh bilkul sunsaan lagta hai. For families, especially with young kids, I'd be very cautious. Plus, builder delays are a common story there.
